Tenir le poids d’une présence [Holding the weight of a presence], 2017, Black schist coming from a coal heap; pine wood plank, water, fabric and heating system, 300 x 300 x 400 cm, Prix du Hainaut, Maison Folie, Mons - © Ithier Held

Living memory: the human presence is preserved by the celebration of his memory. A mound of schist dust, poorly contained by a cloth inflated as if a body was lying underneath it, is carried by a table. The heat of a resistance immersed in the body of this mining heap makes mushrooms bloom on its surface and keeps alive the memory of buried miners.
